Biluochun, the most tender buds are picked under carefully controlled conditions in the spring. One of the prized top 10 famous China tea, only a limited amount of this special grade tea is available, is originally grown in the Dongting mountain region near Lake Tai, Jiangsu, China. Also known as Pi Lo Chun, it is renowned for its delicate appearance, fruity taste, floral aroma, showy white hairs and early cropping.

The name Biluochun literally means "green snail spring". It is called so because it is a green tea that is rolled into a tight spiral, resembling snail meat, and is cropped in early spring. At that time, because of its rich aroma, local people called the tea “Xia Sha Ren Xiang” (“scary fragrance”). The Kangxi Emperor of the Qing Dynasty decided to give it a more elegant name, "Green Snail Spring".

A plantation growing Biluochun is amazing to visit, with the tea plants mixed in among a variety of fragrant fruit trees to give the tea its natural fruity aroma and taste. It is so delicate and tender that one kilogram of Dong Ting Biluochun consists of 14,000 to 15,000 tea shoots. Due to the stringent selection process for high quality leaves, this tea is not widely available.
One of Biluochun's unique properties is that when infused, the tea leaves do not remain at the top of the water but slowly float down the cup like falling snowflakes. Many enjoy watching this effect as much as drinking Biluochun.
